Seth Godin And The Gatekeepers

I watch lots of inspirational videos on YouTube. For me, Seth Godin has been one of the most motivational. He talks about globalization and the "race to the bottom" which is happening in so many industries across America. Basically, as a result of globalization, there will always be somebody (probably in an undeveloped country) willing to do your job for lower pay.

True, this all sounds pretty negative, but there's a huge upside. The gatekeeper is gone. The internet has disrupted many legacy business models, and Godin argues that many more will lose their moats over the coming years.

With disruption comes opportunity for those willing to seize the moment. No longer must entrepreneurs send out hundreds of manuscripts to snide publishers. Self publishing on Amazon is a viable option for anyone.

The same goes for musicians. Who needs record companies when you can post your work directly to YouTube for all to see? The audience will determine the next generation of rock stars, not record label executives.

As an entrepreneur, it's easy to lose motivation after a series of setbacks. When I find myself in a rut, I return to Godin's blog to find inspiration.

Check out Godin's blog by typing "seth" into Google.
